Foresight Program Receives USDA Grant to Aid Forest Service Policy-Makers

Dr. Andy Hines, assistant professor and coordinator of the Foresight Graduate Program has received $ 10,000 to continue work for the Strategic Foresight Group of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service. A multi-faceted agency, the U.S. Forest Service mission is to sustain the diversity, health and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands for the present and future generations. This collaboration began in summer 2016, with Dr. Hines working alongside technology foresight students and the Strategic Foresight team. Their focus is setting up a horizon scanning system that will help the Forest Service identify changes, challenges, or emerging issues, so that they can provide advance warning to policy-makers. They have since developed a blog and newsletter along with completed scenarios of North American Forest Futures 2035. Dr. Hines will continue his work with the Forest Service until July 2020.
